چکیده

Lasers have caused revolutionary changes in many fields of science and technology. Since 1960, six orders of magnitude, from 10 to 10 seconds, have been added to time-resolved observation of fast phenomena, which makes ultrafast research grows rapidly among materials science, biology, and chemistry. The use of these ultrashort high-power pulses went hand-in-hand with their development and already brought some fascinating discoveries. This article provides a brief review of the historical development of short laser pulse along with some important improvements, then gives description of the development of pump-probe technique, and finally presents an application in material science.

Detection of nonthermal melting by ultrafast X-ray diffraction.

Using ultrafast, time-resolved, 1.54 angstrom x-ray diffraction, thermal and ultrafast nonthermal melting of germanium, involving passage through nonequilibrium extreme states of matter, was observed. Such ultrafast, optical-pump, x-ray diffraction probe measurements provide a way to study many other transient processes in physics, chemistry, and biology, including direct observation of the ato...

Corrigendum: Ultrafast universal quantum control of a quantum-dot charge qubit using Landau–Zener–Stückelberg interference

A basic requirement for quantum information processing is the ability to universally control the state of a single qubit on timescales much shorter than the coherence time. Although ultrafast optical control of a single spin has been achieved in quantum dots, scaling up such methods remains a challenge. Here we demonstrate complete control of the quantum-dot charge qubit on the picosecond scale...

Solid state synthesis of NiO nanoparticles from [(1,2-bis(2-formyl-3-methoxyphenyl)propane)nickel(II)] chloride

In this paper, nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles have been prepared by solid state thermal decomposition of an acyclic nickel(II) complex (1,2-bis(2-formyl-3-methoxyphenyl)propane)nickel(II) chloride, [NiL]Cl2, in an electrical furnace at optimal temperature, 450 ºC for 3.5 h. The nickel(II) complex is obtained via solid state synthesis using nickel(II) chloride and tetradentate O4 acyclic ligan...

Ultrafast Fiber Lasers for Commercial Applications

Introduction Optical fibers and fiber amplifiers have sparked an unparalleled growth in telecommunications and what is being recognized as a revolution in Optics. In fact, with the fine work by others on high repetition rate ultrafast fiber lasers, it is possible that these devices will also be an important factor in the telecommunications arena. However, what will be the impact of optical fibe...

Ultrafast X-ray Diffraction Theory

Time-resolved X-ray diffraction patterns can be inverted to obtain photoinduced dynamics without resorting to additional and often unknown information (e.g., potential energy surfaces), as required in optical probe experiments. In order to interpret ultrafast X-ray diffraction measurements, we consider several time scales in X-ray experiments involving elastic versus inelastic scattering, quant...
